“Burpee” is not only an interesting word, but after doing a couple of them, you may not mind not hearing the word again for awhile. It’s an intense exercise routine named after Royal H. Burpee, a physiologist, who developed it as a measure of physical fitness and agility. It was also used in the past to assess the physical fitness of recruits of the US Armed Forces in the past.

How to do a burpee
Perform the following steps as fast as possible. Each burpee should not take longer than 2 seconds.

How to modify a burpee
Create a challenge with the following:
1. Add a push-up or mountain climbers during step 3.
2. Hold dumbells throughout and add rows during step 3.
3. Do a pushup on a bosu-ball (curved side down) during step 3.
4. Do a box jump during step 5.
Try 3 sets of 10-15 burpees. Mix these sets in during a weight lifting session to increase your heart rate.
Remember, getting in shape also requires a healthy balanced diet and at least 7 hours of sleep per night. Make sure to consult with your healthcare provider before starting an exercise regimen.
